Inter-island ferry service

Sir, — Your correspondent, G. V. Thomas, says that the Labour Party’s pledge to restore a WellingtonLyttelton ferry service is simply a ploy of “buying votes.” Such an outlook ignores completely the real economic advantages which would accrue to Lyttelton and the South Island generally with the restoration of an efficient inter-island ferry service. If this is “buying votes”, I would be interested to know the views of Mr Thomas on Mr Muldoon’s blatant buying of the pensioner vote at the last General Election with a sorne-thing-for-nothing scheme under the guise of National Superannuation which is costing the work force of this country dearly. — Yours, etc., R. L. PLUCK. April 14, 1978.
