New Chilean Cabinet
NZPA Santiago The Chilean President (Genera] Augusto Pinochet) has given civilians a majority voice in his new Cabinet, the first time since he seized power in a military coup nearly five years ago. A Government spokesman said the new Cabinet consisted of 11 civilians and five military men. Hfernan Cubillos was narqed as Foreign Minister and . Alfonso Marquez de la Plata takes over the agriculture portfolio. Another civilian, Jose Luis Federici, becomes Transport Minister. The old Cabinet resigned
on Wednesday night, giving President Pinochet a free hand to introduce political reform.
Almost immediately the President named a Rightwing lawyer, Sergio Fernandez Fernandez, as Interior Minister, giving him the job of leading Chile back to political normality. Mr Fernandez replaced General Cesar Benavides, who was given the defence portfolio. The spokesman said the rest of the Ministers in the old Cabinet were reappointed to their previous posts.
