Big women’s group in Anzac march

A contingent of 40 women I will lead the Anzac Day par- ■ ade of the Sumner-Redcliffs branch of the Returned Services’ Association this year. The group includes 10 returned 'servicewomen and 30 home servicewomen, at least half of whom served in World War 11. The oldest returned servicewoman is 85. She will not march but will attend the service at the Hollywood twin cinema. Mr L. Masters, the owner, gives the theatre every year for the service. Sister Helen BOlton, aged 70, who was one of the first three nursing sisters in

[Burma during the war, will also attend the service. I The number of women marching as a unit has ini creased from four in 1976 to 40 this year. The women have been encouraged to join the Sumner-Redcliffs branch which now has full branch status, after having been a sub-branch of the Christchurch R.S.A. This move appears to have resulted in an Anzac Day revival in the area. Some of the servicewomen have organised a party for children marching in the parade, while others will help cater for those attending the R.S.A. chartered club.
