Man shot by mistake
PA Hamilton A hunter was accidentally shot and killed near Turangi after he was mistaken for a Ide >r. He was Robin Graham Phillips, aged I in his late 20s, a farmer of Pukawa. ! A Turangi police spokesman said that Mr Phillips and a companion went hunting in rugged terrain in the Waihi-Pukawa range, west of Turangi. They split up and a member of another party of three also hunting in the same area, mistook Mr Phillips for a deer.
He was shot in the base of the spine and died before a police party could reach him.
