BOB SCHUMACHER
The favourite. Smokey Hobbs,! was probably the disappointment' of the 3ZB Classic race for dogs when it failed to get in the chase in the 540 m event on a slushy Queen Elizabeth II Park track last evening. The honours of the race rested 1 with the Aranui trainer. Don. Robinson, who trained the first' two dogs. His lesser fancy. Smooth Kiwi, led out and was followed down) the back sraigiit by Radara Bell with Fashion Comet nicely! placed in third position. Entering the home straight. Fashion Comet powered away and comfortably beat his kennel mate. Smooth Kiwi, by a length. Radara Bell, prominently placed throughout, battled on in the gamest .fashion for third. Hone Hobbs racing out of his bass showed potential to finish fourth. Huatah! Prince and Smokey lobhs were always back in the tinning. Man-O-VVar. which won the >pen sprint at the last meeting, troved his fitness for a longer distance when he led from the outset to beat Mystic Wave and Torianna Charm after a strong ■hallenge in the home straight.
