TV sound crews stop

Television film operators continued their rolling stoppages yesterday when sound recordists stopped work from 10 p.m. until midnight The Public Service Association asked all broadcasting staff members to support the cameramen, second operators and film editors in their dispute over wage claims with the Broadcasting Corporation. Settlement by conciliation must over-ride arbitration, contends the P.S.A., and it asked members not to undertake work which would detract from the effectiveness of the film operators’ protest. A request has also been made to “black” time which would have been filled by filmed material, with announcements from presenters, explaining the reasons for the gap. A P.S.A. spokesman said the national stop-work would continue until a satisfactory response was received from the chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation (Mr lan Cross). Film editors stopped work

on Thursday, but were back on the job yesterday. Local programmes affected included news bulletins and the dramas, “Rachel” and “Gather Your Dreams” being filmed in Marlborough and Coromandel.
