Woman lucky in collision

A woman escaped unhurt from her car yesterday after it was crushed between a truck and a Christchurch Transport Board bus in Opawa Road. According to the Ministry, of Transport, all three vehicles were travelling along Opawa Road just after 2 p.m. — about the time rain started.

The truck stopped to turn right into a driveway near the Wilsons Road intersection, and the woman was unable to pass it. The bus, coming up behind skidded on the newly-wet road, and sandwiched the car between it and the truck. The truck was not marked, and the bus suffered only a small dent, but the ca? was severely damaged front and rear. Neither the truck-driver nor the busdriver was injured, and the bus was carrying no passengers.

However, another woman driver did suffer injuries when her car and another collided at the corner of Montreal Street and Bealey Avenue about 1.30 p.m. Patricia Bowden, aged 35, of 23 Conference Street, sufferred moderately serious head and chest nijuries. She is in a fairly comfortable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.
