Squash team

Rod Hayes and Kathy Graham head the Canterbury squash team which will meet Southern Districts in the annual representative match at Timaru on Sunday. A minor surprise is that the selectors (Pat Leopold, Les Milne, and Doug Lawrie) have ranked Paul McFadzien as No. 2 ahead of Lawrence Skurr, who has performed rather better against Hayes recently. Quick promotion has come for the 15-year-old, Stuart Davenport, who made his Agrade debut only last year. He is ranked seventh in front of much more experienced players. Last season’s No. 4, Barry McNeil, was not available. He is leaving soon for Queensland. The team is:

Men: R. W. Hayes, P. G. McFadzien, L. P. Skurr, B. D. Matthews, N. D. Rush, G. Balani, S. Davenport, M. D. Grant, G. Tait, B. B. Trangmar. Women: K. Graham, P. Lush, M. Holland. L. Chamberlain, L. Sutherland, S. O’Brien. Colts: L. Walton, C. Wasley, G. Monk, J. French. Juniors: R. Clements, J. Bushell, S. Hargreaves, P. Davenport.
