New appointment by Insurance Council

The Insurance Council of New Zealand has appointed Mr N. W. Bridge as manager of its technical services division.

Mr Bridge, who will be based in Wellington, previously held a professional position in the fire-research division of the Building Research Association of New Zealand.

Before coming to New Zealand in 1975, he headed a research group dealing with ifire-protection studies at the Borehamwood Joint Fire Research Organisation. He graduated from Liver-

i pool University as a physicist, lectured at two polytechnic colleges, and gained his membership of the Institute of Physicists. Mr Bridge will be engaged in duties dealing with many I aspects of fire and related technology and their appliI cation to the insurance industry and its policyholders. Mr Bridge

Mr Bridge has maintained a special interest in sprinkler systems. He played a big role in the design and development of a new high-speed type of automatic sprinkler, the first such system being installed in Australia. He has written a number of fire-research publications including papers on, “Fire protection problems of high racked storages,” “Ignitability of meat carcases,” and “Fire in an inflatable Boeing 737 (a simulation project)”.
