Trip for Mayor
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay) will travel to Edmonton, Alberta, to perform a traditional role at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Mr Hay and his wife will take the official Games flag, in Christchurch since 1974, for a special exchange ceremony in front of the Edmonton City Hall on August 1. He will be a guest of the Edmonton City Council during the Games. His trip will be “on the cheap” as far as Christchurch ratepayers are concerned, costing about $2OOO. Air travel to and from Los Angeles will be free because of the city’s airline publicity services con» tract, and Mr Hay has asked that he pay his wife’s expenses of about $750. He will receive a daily exjpense allowance of $3O. Although it has been usual in the past, a council officer will not accompany the Mayor on his trip. Expenses will come from travel beyond Los Angeles, insurance, accommodation en route to Edmonton, and daily costs.
