Maoris visit university
About 250 members of the Maori and Pacific Island community from Christchurch, Westland, Marlborough, and Nelson will visit the University of Canterbury on Saturday to learn something of what the university offers.
The day-long programme has been arranged by a special university working party set up to discuss and collect information on educational opportunities for Maori and Polynesian students.
Those attending will be told of courses available, how to enter the university, and how to get financial assistance. There will be a brief guided tour of the university, a performance by the university’s Maori Club, and a hangi.
The working party, which is a committee of the professorial board, is establishing links and exchanging information with other institutions, and seeking improvements to spread information to potential Maori and Polynesian students.
