Racing and trotting Eastwood Glenfern fine Addington prospect

By

G. K. YULE

Eastwood Glenfern will further her preparation for the $12,000 New Zealand Oaks on Anzac Day with a run in the Nevele R. Stud Stakes at Addington Raceway this evening In what will be only her third start for the season, she is expected to overcome her handicap of 20m and run out the winner. The talented daughter of Lopez Hanover, one of the top-ranked pacers of her age last season, resumed racing at Orari in November when she finished fourth. Her trainer-driver, Sam Ballantyne, then decided to restrict her to races for her own sex as much as possible and not. ask her to compete against the top colts and geldings. Her next start was at Forbury Park at the end of March when she was brought down as she was making ground near the 800 m. She went well at recent trials and in spite of her handicap, she looks the one to beat. Young Doreen has failed in two starts since winning in Southland. She is much better than her latest attempts suggest and if she is, to be a danger in the Oaks,, she will need to make a reasonable showing this even- j tag. Gay Black could hardly have been more impressive when she was successful inf

a Cl race at Rangiora last Saturday. She looks capable of holding her Own in this class and much interest will centre in her performance. Flora Dor was a stylish maiden graduate at her first race start at Rangiora. There

is a fair jump in class in this race. But she should still go well. Alena, Hush Puppy, and Timely Proposal are others capable of adding interest to the finish. American Chief, Drifted

i In, and Dreamy Boy form a 'likely trio in the first leg, the Max Harvey Handicap, which will be run over 3200 m. It is one of four races for invited drivers, which include many of New Zealand’s top reinsmen.
