Weaker market, but speculative rises
Australian share markets were mixed, and most interest was centred on speculative favourites yesterday. B.H.P. ended the day unchanged at 612 c. CSR gained 2c to 274 c, | Bundaberg Sugar rose 5c to 325 c, but Pioneer Sugar lost 2c to 108 c. EZ Industries fell 7c ta 205 c, despite expectations of an early start to Ranger uranium mining. Sims Consolidated, was up a cent at 100 c after reaching an early high of 105 c.
Central Pacific rose to a new high of 460 c, before settling back to 450 c, for a gain of 60c on the day. Its oil-shale partner, Southern Pacific, rose 12c to 162 c. The market was not impressed with the Federal Government’s legislative moves to enable mining to begin as early as this June. Pancontinental fell 10c to 1060 c, Queensland Mines was down a cent to 187 c, but Kathleen investments rose 5c to 155 c.
