CSR to open office in Tokyo

NZPA Sydney CSR, Ltd., is to establish an office in Tokyo, says the company’s general manager (Mr R. G. Jackson). Mr Jackson is visiting Japan for talks with senior executives of Japanese commercial and industrial firms. In a statement released on his behalf in Sydney Mr Jackson said “Commodities exported to Japan by CSR, and its subsidiaries are worth about S4OOM a year. “They include raw sugar sold by CSR as agent for the Queensland Government, iron ore, coal, bauxite, copper concentrates and industrial alcohol. “Some of the wool and

meat produced on CSR’s pastoral properties are also sold to Japanese buyers,” he said. “CSR’s trading-links with Japan go back to 1954 when we arranged the first sales to Japan of Queensland raw sugar. Since then, the sugar business has been developed to the point where Japan is by* far Australia’s most important sugar customer. “This has not come about by chance, but as a result of very sound relations established between CSR and Japanese buyers. “The CSR Tokyo office will assist in further developing this valuable relationship,” Mr Jackson said.
