Hot, dry, and windy weather caused continued drought conditions through-, out last month, with only a brief respite of rain on March 18 which soon evaporated. reported the meteorological office at Lincoln College. A high average temperature of 16.4 degrees was recorded at Lincoln. This was close to the record March average of 17 degrees recorded in 1968. The highest temperature
recorded at Lincoln was 29.9 degrees, similar to maximum! temperatures for March for jthe last four years. One day of frost was re-1 corded compared w r ith fourdays last year. The rainfall for March of, 26.8 mm was substantially up .on March last year. It had; initiated some grass growth: but the over-all rainfall to March this year was downj on last year bv 38mm.
