Church service for visiting Samoan Prince
A special church service was held in Christchurch last evening to greet the visiting Western Samoan Head of State (His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II).
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay) and church elders met the Prince at St Paul’s Trinity Pacific Presbyterian Church, where many of the Samoan community attended the service.
The Rev. Kenape Faletoese led the congregation. It was the Prince’s first official engagement of the day, after
arriving from Invercargill yesterday morning. He is nearing the end of a New Zealand tour begun on April 1.
Today, he will attend a morning tea at the Town Hail, when Mr Hay will he the host, then depart for Auckland at noon. He will be at Auckland only long enough for a farewell ceremony, led by the GovernorGeneral (Sir Keith Holyoake) before leaving on a commercial flight to Sydney this afternoon.
