Bowls to Papanui
Papanui capped a bowls season of outstanding success when it was successfully represented in the last major tournament — the Christchurch club’s Wales Centennial Cup event — of the season at the week-end. The winner with five wins and a draw, from six games, was the Papanui entry of Dave Trainor, Mick Williams, Duncan White and Brian McGowan (s). Second with five wins — they were narrowly beaten in the last round — was Morgan Moffat’s Linwood combination of Ken Watson, Sonny Calder and Bryan ’ Smith. ! Moffat was the winning ; skip last year; the winner ; the previous season, when ! the tournament was estab- ; lished as a follow-up to the [Christchurch club’s centenary, was Kevin Darling, also [of Linwood. Thirty-two teams con- ‘ tested the tournament and [the green winners, excluding ’the major prize-winners, were lan Scott (Dallington) and Arthur Stapleton (Shir- ! ley). The runners-up were David Langley (Christchurch). who held McGowan to a draw, and Alan Stuart (Burnside).
