United enjoyed a brief lead over Mairehau High School but was eventually trounced 65-34 in the second round of the women’s A grade basketball competition at Christchurch Bovs’ High School on Saturday. After (he first few minutes United led, 12-7. but b\ half-time Mairehau was comfortablx ahead.
26-14. In the second hall Mairehau scored seven straight baskets and soon settled in. A new player for Mairehau. Debbie Goodland, led the team well to score 12 points. Heather : Carr <l6) and Wendv Stanton (14) scored well for United. University too made a good start. It led Checkers. 10-6. after five minutes, but then came an onslaught, and Checkers led. 37-22 at Half-time. The former New Zealand rep resentative. Sharon Rennell showed some of her best form in! accumulating 32 points for Checkers, which played in a very ’ relaxed manner during the sec-; ond half. The tari Adrienne Beck enholdt made full use of a height] advantage to score 12 points.
Mairehau easily beat Rebels. • 4’4-28. in a one-sided game. At ;half-time it led 3Mo, Jackie Cooke scored 18 points for Mairehau; Jennv Armstrong a lhe captain) scoted 11. and Patsx Barry (formerly Patsx Hinkle) and Viv. Howard, each scored 10. Results:
