Special correspondent I Though Cheval d’Alure: caught punters napping: when she won Saturday’s! Marlborough Cup, her Ha-1 wera , . owner-trainer, T Peter: Moseley, was not surprised | at the success. Moseley knew the mare was fast approaching a peak [effort and had expected her! to win last month’s Opunake Cup. i “The finish was a close! one and she was right in! behind' the place-getters that} day at Hawera,” Moseley re-1 called. Cheval d’Alure has main-i tained her form and took Saturday’s event by half a length from the fast-finish- i ing Joss with Sir Trouba-I dour making ground ‘for! third. A six-year-old, Cheval d’Alure has now won six! times, scoring two of these wins at Blenheim. The earlier successes had been registered in the lower grades. By Oakville from Alouette, Cheval d’Alure is raced on lease by Moseiey from Mr Roger Corkhill, formerly of Hawera but now based at Ohaupo, south of Hamilton. i Cheval d’Alure was first leased to Mr Milton Zavos.! who relinquished his title: and Moseley took over the i lease. Alouette, dam of the Mari-1 borough Cup winner, is by! Targui from Melod, by Beau Repaire from Manuia, by Musketoon. Her other racing stock 1 have been Min Tide (Bv| Harleigh), Half Pint (By Ido'-1 meneo), Cheval D’Oake (by | Oakville) and All At Sea (by Man The Rail). Moseley has six runners! on the Blenheim circuit and I they will travel to Westport! for the Buller fixture this! coming week-end. Moseley has a very close! association with the Builer! region, having been born at; Waimangaroa, near Westport. Though he left Buller: in 1944, he still retains a close touch with the region. Several of the Moseley 1 stable clients are from the, West Coast. These include: Mr Brian McEnany, who races Aftentaller and the’ McDonald family’s chestnut, Jim Bob. Cheval d’Alure was ridden by the former Waverlev apprentice jockey, Grant Cooksley, who is now employed by the Awapuni trainer. Garth Ivil. Kanga’s Lad, which had earlier won two races on the! course, took the open sprint, The Teachers Whisky Handicap from Sean’s Gift and Rio Ribbon. They had the! I finish to themselves and were six lengths clear of the ’ others, which were headed by Trumpet Call. By Gold Sovereign, Kanga’s Lad is raced by! Messrs B. G. Neville-White and M. J. Burridge. the latter training the horse at Hastings in partnership with D. K. Pocock. There was considerable interest in the reappearance of the former successful Te Aroha galloper, Imperial Chief. Raced by Mr Peter Moran, of Panzer Chief and
| Jackpot Fame, Imperial I Chief is now with Clem ; Bowry at Otaki. He displayed pace but a lack of i recent racing showed and he ! petered out to eighth.
