Free emergency calls
From “German Features”
A new “fire brigade game” the invention of German Fire Brigade Association experts, is designed to teach children, in an exciting fashion, what to do in emergency situations.
The first thing to do in West Germany in case of accident or fire is to notify
the fire brigade. Throughout the country, the fire brigade can be reached by dialling one number, from public callboxes or from private phones. However, what use is an easily memorised number if you have not got the right change? The German Post Office is installing special
equipment in public callboxes by means of which the local fire brigade can be contacted cost-free by operating a lever. These devices are to be installed in less densely populated areas in particular. They are child’s play to operate.
