Drive for funds
Rowing dubs throughout New Zealand have already begun the first voluntary project in their fund-raising campaign for the world rowing championships to be held on Lake Karapiro in the first week of November. The rowers are selling various souvenir items and the first oi these is a carry-bag, priced at $1 each, from which the clubs hope to raise $75,000 in eight weeks. Colour pictures on the bags feature details of the championships and several action shots at Lake Karapiro and there is also a large black and white picture of New Zealand’s Munich Olympic eight and a colour shot of that crew’s gold medal. Later fund-raising efforts will include the selling of souvenir items, such as tee-shirts,, caps and tea-spoons, and a mystery envelope appeal us Canterbury.
