Appeals body formed
PA Wellington Representatives of national organisations that run annual appeals for funds have formed an organisation to try to make their fundraising more effective. The National Appeals Association was formed after a two-day conference in Wellington, attended by representatives! of 16 service and charitable ! organisations. Mr B. Hewes, convener of the conference, said the association would aim to raise standards of fund-raising, protect .the public from indiscriminate appeals, and prevent the overlapping of ap-: peals. The association, whose: chairman will be Mr A. Tong.i of the Salvation Army, hopes' to revamp fund-raising appeals. “Compared with the like of, Telethon. the traditional | house-to-house appeals are ’ about as modern as a horse-1 drawn cart,” Mr Hewes said.
