Burned Ford driver takes less
I NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles A man who won SUSI2SM judgment against the Ford Motor Company, believed to be the largest personal-in-liury settlement in history ‘has agreed to accept ISUS3.SM rather than go (through another trial. Ford, which had asked for a new trial in the case, has 30 days to appeal against the decision. If Ford does not appeal, Richard Grimshaw, aged 18, of Anaheim, California, will receive a total of $U56,341,000 in actual and punitive damages. Mr Grimshaw suffered severe burns over 80 per cent of his body in a 1972 (car accident. The fuel tank of the Pinto he was in ruptured in the accident, and, he was covered with burning petrol. His attorneys charged that Ford sqld the cars even » though the company knew the fuel tanks could be ruptured by the slightest rearend collision. -
