Capping benefit named
The Christchurch road (accident after-care team, (which Dr Morgan Fahey • works with, will benefit from I this year’s University of Canterbury capping activities. ! A full range of activities !has been planned by the I Students’ Association capping I committee for the last week lof this month, and it is hoped ito involve the public as much •as possible. I About 20.000 copies of this year’s capping magazine, l“Needeep,” have been printed. (They will be on sale on the •evening of April 27 and all day on April 28, as well as (at New Brighton on April 29. I Studen ts will also take copies ’as far away as Auckland, • Hamilton and Wellington to (sell, i Each copy will cost 60c land at least 5c from each sale • will go to the capping char’ity.
About 50 floats are expected to take part in the “procesh,” which will wind through central Christchurch streets at lunch-time on April 27. A street collection will also be taken. The capping committee’s publicity officer (Miss D. Chetwin) said organisers were still looking for Christchurch firms to lend trucks to carry the floats. “Stunts day” will be held on April 28, and will include the Avon bike race. This will begin at 1 p.m., when participants will leave Cathedral Square and run down Hereford Street and into the Avon River. They will then cycle down the river to just beyond the Armagh Street bridge. A prize-giving wiil be held in • Victoria Square. I On April 30, at 11 a.m„ the I‘Chunda Mile” will be held (at Rugby Park and will be
open to the public. A wide variety of races will be held, but before running all competitors will be required to drink beer and eat several meat pies.
The graduation ceremonies for University of Canterbury students will be held on May 13 and 4.
