Waitaki lakes proposal
Wellington reporter A proposal for a Waitaki Lakes Reserve Board has been approved by the Minis ir of Lands (Mr V. S. Young).
He will write to « the local authorities involved, on the subjects of finance and representation on the board. The member of Parliament for South Canterbury (Mr R. L. G. Talbot) said that at an earlier meeting of the local authorities and departmental officials, these matters had been discussed and a basis for the establishment of the reserve ’ -ird reached. A Waitaki Lakes Reserve Board would coordinate the management, development, acquisition, protection, and mairtenance of the area surrounding Lake Waitaki, Avien* ore, and Benmore for the benefit and enjoyment of the general public, Mr Talbot said.
A significant financial contribution would be made by the Government.
