New golf course sought
i The Coringa Country Club i has sought approval for the i development of a further 18hole galf course at McLeans I Island. 1 The application was made to the North Canterbury i Catchment Board, which [ ; leases the land. Development of the course j i would involve the ex- j cavation and removal of i: : shingle and the creation of a ’ j series of small lakes and! !ponds. The board agreed to! : the proposal in principle and
advised the club that a final decision would not be made until full development plans had been submitted, with a detailed statement of proposals involving the shingle removal. The club was advised that final approval, if given, [would include conditions including limiting excavation ito not more than 1.5 metres [ below winter ground-water level and that the board’s [chief engineer approve all -work.
