Sleeping family hit by burglars
PA Auckland Burglars took $B6OO in cash from a Dutch couple and their family sleeping in a Greenlane motel. But the burglars missed) $lO,OOO in jewellery and; rings. Mr Maurets Porto also lost air tickets, passports, vaccination documents, and references for a drilling job he was to take up later this month in Bombay. Mr and Mrs Porto and their children arrived in Auckland from Singapore with $7OOO cash in United States dollars, $l6OO in New Zealand currency, $lO,OOO in jewellery, and all their personal documents. “It was everything we had in the world,” said Mrs Yvonne Porto. “We are used to carrying all our money and personal belongings’ with us because we travel!
so much.” I Mr and Mrs Porto slept in the lounge of the motel and their children slept in the bedrooms. Mrs Porto said that they had not locked their door although it had been closed.
