Situation A weakening ridge of high pressure extends on to the North Island from the east, and a disturbed north-west-erly airstream flows on to the South Island; the front within this flow is expected to reach Fiordland late this morning, followed by a cooler south-west change. Forecast: Canterbury: Moderate northeasterlies predominating about the coast, but fresh north-westerlies inland may spread to the coast at times; some rain in the Alps and variable high cloud elsewhere. . but mainly fair and rather warm.
Marlborough, Nelson: Northwesterlies, fresh and gusty about the outer Sounds and in other exposed places; areas of low cloud, mist and drizzle about Cook Strait and In the west of Nelson; fair and mild to warm elsewhere. Buller, Westland: Moderate north-easterlies; cloudy, with periods of rain; moderate temperatures; possibly a coo) south-west change in South Westland late today. Outlook: A cool south-west change overnight in Canterbury, but fair again during the day; changeable showery weather in the west; fair elsewhere.
