Public opinion sought on Chch coastline
Members of the public are being invited to express; their opinions on reserve 1 uses of the greater Christ-: church coastline. The Department of Lands, and Survey is conducting a: national-reserve survey of the area and, depending on public response and attitudes, will make recommendations to local bodieson uses of the coastline. i The survey is being made] irrespective of the present] tenure of coastal lands. Pub-1 lie opinion made during pre- 1
: vibus surveys had often; ~ overturned district-scheme I designations and the plans of private developers. ] A spokesman for the de-1 partment, Mr J. Edmonds,] said that because the Christ-, church coastline was used] by people from all over] Canterbury, Government] funds would “almost certain-] i|y” be made available to i help with or fully meet the ’purchase costs of land for reserve purposes. | The land under survey is]!from North New Brighton to]
[Livingstone Bay in Lyttelton Harbour. , When public submissions ] close on May 31, they will ]be considered by the depart--1 ment’s local coastal-reserves [committee and then the nat- ] ional coastal reserves committee. After they have been ■ endorsed by the Minister of [Lands (Mr V. S. Young) they will be released as recommendations to metropolitan and ad hoc local bodies.
