Security review
I Security would not be I tightened on the wharves at Lyttelton unless there is a strong case in support of such a move, said the chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Mr J. Brand). He was replying to a suggestion from a board member, Mr M. J. Dobson, that in view of the extra eight Customs officers posted to the port and the increased compounding of cargo at the container terminal, the whole question of port security be investigated.
• | Mr Brand said that it had : always given him pleasure to i j see the public having free ' j access to the wharves and i taking an interest in the port, •j “It would have to be I proved fairly strongly that • ■ increased security was needed before I would support a move to tighten up on public access,” he said. However the board agreed that some investigation was [necessary because of the in- ' creased compounding of 'cargo at Cashin Quay.
