Courage loss grows
I Courage Breweries, Ltd. moved further into the red from sAustl 14,000 to $612,000 in the six months to December 28, after intense competition in both Victoria and N.S.W. This indicates that the full year’s loss could be more than SIM since the first-half is traditionally better for breweries. Packaged beer failed to recover its market share lost during the period of retail price cutting in Victoria. The demand for bulk beer in Victoria was depressed, underlining the difficulties in trying to compete with Carlton and United Breweries, Ltd.
