Chaos at vote count
NZPA-Reuter Guatemala City Two rival politicians stormed into the electoral tribu nal with armed bands of supporters during chaotic vote-counting after Guate mala’s elections, and final results were still not known yesterday. The confused scenes at the election administration head quarters came amid mounting tension in the capital after fraud charges, suspended counting, and rival victory claims. Dr Francisco Villagran Kramer, the Governmentsponsored Vice-Presidential candidate, described Mondays march into the tribunal, at a press conference. He said he was present when the Vice-President (Mr Mario Sandoval Alarcon) and a presidential candidate. General Ricardo Peralta Mendez, burst in with their respective armed followers to complain about the wax the vote-counting was going The confusion was not confined to the tribunal offices, however. The two other Presidential candidates were claiming victory, and counting was halted in Guatemala City after complaints of vote-rig ging. The authorities ordered a secret recount.
