Papanui park?
Land for a new park at the edge of Papanui could be bought bv the Waimairi : County Council. Located near Grants Road and Grassmere Street, a b 1 ick of about six acres would lessen the shortage of reserves in that part of CMistchurch. the City Council’s parks and recreation committee said yesterday. But negotiations with the' I'iinty should include a provision for sharing develop-
ment and maintenance costs between the two local bodies. Cr P. W. Anderson said there was a need for surrounding local authorities to contribute financially to city parks, such as Queen Elizabeth II Park and Hagley Park, which served regional needs. "I am not prepared to let them off even with a small suburban park.” he said.
