Driver of crash car sought
The Christchurch police are looking for the driver of' an orange Chevrolet Camaro which knocked an elderly man off his bicycle in Christchurch on Monday i evening. The cyclist died in thei Christchurch Hospital at 1 a.m. yesterday. He was Thomas Rattray Ayson, aged 68, of Flat 4. 430 Ferry Road, Christchurch. The police would like to hear from anyone who saw the car at any time before the accident. The car was) travelling south on Aidwins Road when it hit the cyclist at the intersection with Harrow Street. It then hit a power pole, which was torn off at the base, and came to rest against another power pole. The driver then abandoned the vehicle. The accident occurred only a short distance from Mr Ayson’s home. A man will appear in the Magistrate’s Court today on charges relating to an accident near Kaiapoi on Saturday evening.
A car and a motor-cycle collided on the old North Road, just north of the Waimakariri River bridge. The motor-cyclist, Peter Headwood Sigvertsen, aged 16, of 5 Chapman Place, Kaiapoi, was still on the seriously ill list at Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday, although he had shown a slight improvement.
