WHISTLING BOY
A Christchurch housewife has her week-end meat order delivered each Friday. The butcher is a cheerful soul and always walks up the path whistling happily. With a bright, “Yoo-hoo, Mrs 5..” he knocks on the front door and takes in the parcel. Whether by design or I accident, his tunes are often appropriate to the
situation — “Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head,” on a wet day; “You Are My Sunshine,” on a bright one. He has a loud and cheerful voice which goes with his personality. Snatches of his conversation often drift across the fence and Mrs S . . .’s neighbour hears comments on all the latest news while working in her kitchen. She does not even need to pause in
tier work and has heard discussions on the weather, politics and the recent snow storms in Scotland and America. But a recent visit really caused the neighbour to smile. He came up the path, whistling in fine form and knocked on the door with his usual “Ooh! Hoo, Mrs.. The tune he was whistling? “Answer me. Oh! My Love!”
