Rowing double to Christ’s
Fourteen schools, including ones from as far away as Riverton and Picton, contested the South Island secondary schools regatta in excellent’water conditions at Kerrs Reach during the week-end. Heats were run on Saturday with finals, petite finals and consolation races contested on Sunday. A total of 45 races were held and their smooth running could be attributed to the large group of voluntary helpers. For the first time the old senior and intermediate classes were not raced and competitors were instead divided into under-19, under--17, under-16 and under 15 sections. The under-19 A section is the equivalent of the old senior class, with the under-19 B class representing those oarsmen who have done less training. Christ’s College comfortably took the eights-fours double in the premier under--19 A class. Abbreviations used in the following results were:—C.C. (Christ’s College), K.V.H.S. (Kaikorai Valley High School), S.B.C. (St Bede’s
College), L.P.H.S. (Logan Park High School), Q.C.C. (Queen Charlotte College, Picton), 0.8.H.5. (Otago Boys’ High School), C.B.H.S.
