Fun run popular
The Christchurch City Councils Department of Sport and Recreation held its most popular community fun run so far when about 700 men, women, and children ran in ideal conditions through Bottle Lake Forest; Park. The event attracted runners aged from five to more than 60. Some ran with their pet dogs and made a picnic! day of it. Some members of the Long Distance Runners Club of New Zealand, including its chairman (Don Cameron, St Martins), ran about 15km to -the forest, completed some circuits of it, and ran 15km home again as extra; training for the
Mount Hutt marathon on March 27 and the Brighton Pier 50-mile championship on April 15. : A council recreation officer, Paul McOscar said that the objective of yesterday’s run was ter pro\ ide preparation for the “Christ* | church Star" annual city-to-surf event on March 18. Running distances in the park were optional on sev- ! eral well marked circuits. Most participants chose a route which roughly equalled the city-to-surf distance. Mr McOscar said that a similar community run would be held in preparation for “The Press" annual park-to-park event, which will be held from Sydenham Park on May 7.
