Dr lan Hassall, an i Auckland pediatrician, has , been appointed the Plunkec Society’s first full-lime deputy medical director. ; Dr Hassall, aged 36 and ■ himself a former Plunket I baby, will he responsible for co-ordinating the . society’s extended respon- ! sibilities in South Auckland. Assisted by a SI million Government contract, the ; Plunket Society will cover I the nursing 'and child- ! health needs of all pre- ! schoolers in the area, ■ allowing public health I nurses to concentrate on ; school health services. D- Hassall is the second youthful figure appointed ; to a major post in the ; society in recent months. Last _ April, Dr Dgvid i ! Geddis, aged 31, became ! Plunket’s youngest medical j j director when he took ' I over from Dr Neil Begg. ! Dr Hassall is also chair- , man of the Child Abuse > Prevention Society which ! is setting up a telephone | counselling service in I Auckland.
