Early Budget hint
PA Wellington The date for opening Parliament would depend on when he decided to present the Budget, the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) said yesterday. “The two go together,” he told a news conference. Noting that the Budget was normally presented in July or August, he said:
“I’m thinking in terms of earlier than that.” He would not be more specific. “You can speculate,” he said, adding: “Informed political observers believe there will be a Budget in late May.” He had “a pretty good overview” of the Budget already, but had not vet gone into detail.
