Mill union of 9000 under study
Carpet factory workers, knitwear and hosiery workers, and woollen workers will hold discussions this month about the possibility of forming a national union. The discussion will take place at the annual meetings of the eight branches of their combined union. There are three other unions — Northern, Wellington and OtagoSouthland. Mr D. Shenker, secretary of the Canterbury union and newly-elected president of the association, said that the total membership of the four unions in the association was just under 9000.
