No Govt help for N.Z. books
PA Wellington The Industries Development Commission has rejected requests for protection and assistance for the New Zealand book manufacturing industry. The commission’s report on New Zealand book production was released by the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schnei-der). He said the Government agreed with the commision’s recommendations. The commission’s inquiry arose from the desire of book printers to produce more of the books published for the New Zealand market. New Zealand publishers were having many of their books j manufactured overseas. The commission rejected a range of requests for protection and assistance which included the imposition of tariffs and import licensing, copyright protection, bounties' and duty concessions on machinery and raw materials. Restrictive measures would act against the interests of the community in regard to cultural affairs, the report said. Bhutto trial ends The Lahore High Court has reserved its judgment in the trial of the former Pakistani Prime Minister. Zul- ' fikar Ali Bhutto, on charges of murder. Mr Bhutto, a lawyer, boycotted most of the proceedings after complaining he was not receiving a fair trial. Bhutto, who is 50. was accused on four counts after an ambush on a political rival, Ahmed Raza Kasuri. in October. 1974. Mr Kasuri’s father died from wounds. Four other men are being tried at the same time. — Lahore.
