Big Amuri Show turnout

Drought conditions took i their toll of entries in the Amuri Agricultural and Pasi toral Association’s Show at Rotherham on Saturday. | Sheep and cattle entries ■ were well down on previous years, and the president of !the Amuri Agricultural and' Pastoral Association (Mr R.L. Clark) attributed this to! the drought the county is experiencing. “I have lived in the dis-', trict all my life and this would be the driest year can remember,” he said. ‘ t would be September sintx. we last had any good rain. There has been no spring growth at all.” A record number of horse entries was received for this : : year’s show, the total of 988 (being 28 more than for last | year. Mr Clark said that en-. tries increased each year,! I and he believed that the 1 pony clubs were mainly re-1 sponsible. “They are quite: active, and most people! seem to have a pony in the! backyard,” he said. Mr Clark said it was! “amazing” to see how wellturned out the stock was. The sheep over all were in very good condition. Although there were not many harness horses shown, they were of a very high standard and could stand up to competition anywhere in! the country, said Miss R. Grimsey, who judged the) cobs and harness horses. | Cobs were of quite a good' standard, she said. The top hack was an ex-1 cellent horse and beautifullyi brought out, said Mr R. K. Reed. “It has been a good: show and well run,” he said. j Gate-takings were up SlB l on last year at $620, but! there had been no increase! in gate charges, said the association’s secretary (Mr J. F. Teear). CHAMPIONSHIPS Sheep Southdown ewe: K. L. Brannigan and Co., N. E. E. Mclntosh reserve. South Dorset Down.—Ram: Estate A. G. and R. F. Mclntosh, J. R. and A. J. Davison reserve. Ewe: Estate A.
