Situation: A large anticyclone over south-east Australia is moving eastwards and extends a ridge of high pressure towards the North Island. A strong disturbed west-south-westerly airstream covers the south Tasman Sea and is spreading over the South Island. Forecasts: Canterbury: Considerable high cloud with rain at times in i the western ranges, clearing late today; westerly winds inland, often fresh and gusty, and reaching the coast at times; warm inland, mild I near the coast.
Marlborough, Nelson; Mild or warm, with varying amounts of high cloud; some rain in the west of Nelson, elsewhere mainly fair; fresh westerlies in Marlborough, soutbwesterlies in the Nelson area, often strong and gusty. Buller, Westland: Cloudy and cool, with occasional rain slowly clearing to become mainly fine by afternoon; moderate southwest winds. Outlook: Fair in Canterbury, Marlborough, and Nelson, occasional showers on the West Coast.
