The appointee will be responsible to the Director (Research and Statistics) for planning, conducting and managing educational research, including surveys and evaluative projects, undertaken by the Division. This involves the control and direction of research staff. The applicant should have a degree in a relevant subject such as mathematics, statistics, psychology, sociology, or education. The appointee would be responsible to the Senior Education Officer (Research) for' various aspects of the evaluation research being conducted in New Zealand on behalf of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (lEA). Applicants should have experience in preparing survey data for computer analysis, and in interpreting and reporting on the results, and should have an interest in education. The successful applicant would be part of a team responsible for the co-ordination and administration of an international survey of mathematics achievement in some 20 countries. A university degree, in education, psychology, sociology, mathematics, or information science, preferably containing a sound statistical component is desirable.
