Wgtn, Chch in speedway clash
The Templeton speedway will play host to a supermodified inter-provincial championship when Wellington drivers take on four of the top Christchurch drivers tonight. Dave Barron and Richard Wadlington form the Wellington team that will do battle with a pair of Canterbury selections. The most consistent driver at Templeton, Peter Ann&n, and another top driver, Mike Allan, form the A team while the B selection is Peter Leversedge and Selwyn Everett The Christchurch drivers will be keen to show that they would have been the ones to beat the recent national super-modified Championships in Wellington. The inter-island ferry dispute prvented the Templeton entrants from reaching the championships. Revenge may be sweet this evening but it will be at the expense of two aggressive and skilled Wellingtonians if the local drivers carry all before them. Wad-
dington was second in the national chmpionships, behind Auckland’s Roger Bertram, and Barron also raced with distinction.
They will both have their work cut out for them when they line up against Annan, for whom this will be his last meeting. Annan, who has' devoted the last 20 years to the sport in Christchurch, will emigrate to Australia in May. For this reason alone, he will be more than keen to finish his career on a high note tonight. He is convinced that he could have done well in the national title quest and he might well have collected his ninth championship first placing for the calss. His close rival, Mike Allan, will be a good bet as well and it will take the visiting drivers all their time to get past this duo. The B selection is a B side in title only, for both Leversedge and Everett have the ability to out-race the other drivers and win comfortably.
