Bastion Point acceptance

PA Auckland Elders of the Ngati Whatua tribe have accepted “without dissent" proposals for the development of land at Bastion Point, according to the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon). The elders met Mr Muldoon, the Minister of Lands (Mr V. S. Young) and the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Maclntyre) in Auckland on Saturday to discuss the report on Bastion Point produced last year by a special planning group. Mr Muldoon said the pro-|

posals discussed at the meeting were substantially those recommended in- the group’s report, with “one or two amendments." The elders present had accepted the proposals “without dissent,” and the meeting had been “most amicable.” He hoped to put proposals before the Cabinet meeting today, but it would depend on whether Mr Young had finished talks with the Auckland City Council, which was also involved in the issue.
