Fire in hall
Flames engulfed the Social Credit Hall in St Asapb Street at 1 p.m. today, but firemen brought the blaze under control within half an hour. Police cordoned oft St Asaph Street between Colombo and Durham Streets and firemen vrith five appliances fought to contain the fire in the hall, which is
flanked on both sides by Carthy Motors, Ltd. A snorkel was used to pour water into the top of the building. The roof was alight from front to back and smoke poured out of drain pipes running down the side of the building. A large group of people gathered on the footpath to watch the fire.
