’Food exporters need incentive’
The processed food in- ! dustry needs incentives to export, according to the chairman of the Export Year committee (Mr Alan Hellaby). “The primary industry needs these airport incentives otherwise its development will be slower and harder,” Mr Hellaby said in Christchurch. A new field of industry could open up based on processed foods which were becoming increasingly popular overseas, and New Zealand already had the expertise and achievements of
its manufacturing industries to call on. “There is much reason for, confidence and expansion in this field but it hasn’t been profitable for companies to do this before.” he said. Mr Hellaby said he was particularly keen to see more involvement bv workers in export industries. Greater communication and involvement of key, workers and trade union j officials was needed to • ensure that all those in-! volved worked for a common goal of encouraging the growth of exports.
