Mt Cook group seeks executive

By LES BLO\HAM, travel editor The Mount Cook Group, one of New Zealand’s largest transport companies, is advertising throughout Australia and New Zealand today for a new chief executive. The move immediately prompts speculation that the company’s managing director arid chairman (Sir Henry Wigley) might soon be retiring. However, a spokesman for the group said yesterday that Sir Henry, who has been associated with the company for almost 50 years, would not retire for “a year or so.” Even then, he will most likely relinquish only his post as managing director.

The new chief executive will carry the title of managing ~ directordesignate. The company had three divisional general managers — Mr M. L. Corner (airlines), Mr R. R. Forward (landlines), and Mr T. K. Cherry (finance and administration). The spokesman emphasised that the new post was also being advertised within the company. The Mount Cook Group, which involves scheduled air and coach services in both islands, ski-field and accommodation interests, and freight and topdressing enterprises, increased its turnover by 23 per cent last year to 817.7 M. Net profit was §629,661, an increase of 47 per cent.
