Search for missing man
A police search of Waikuku Beach yesterday failed to find any trace of a Christchurch man who disappeared after going for a swim at the beach on Wednesday evening. The missing man is Terrance George Birttes, aged 28. of McGregors Road, Linwood, Police scoured the beach yesterday morning north and south of the Ashley River, but found nothing. Senior-Sergeant P. J. Gilbert, of Rangiora, said there was no plan to mount another search for Mr Birtles. His car, which is now being held at the Rangiora Police Station, was found at Waikuku Beach, with his! clothing inside it, on Thursday morning.
